Following the decision of Cisco to drop Polycom as its supplier of conference phones, Cisco announces the end-of-sale date for the popular CP7937G IP Conference Unit. The last order date from the manufacturer is March 31, 2014.
Cisco’s decision to drop Polycom is based on their continuing rivalry in the video conferencing arena. IDC estimates that Cisco controls 41 percent of that marketplace, while Polycom maintains an almost 30 percent share.
The replacement unit for the CP7937 is the Unified IP Conference Unit 8831. With a separate keypad, connected by an umbilical cable, and a much lower profile, market watchers will be curious to see what the response of the end-user will be to this change in architecture.
